Frankly speaking, when I started reviewing job advertisements, I got confused. I wasn’t 100% sure who I was.

My previous role had the title “Area Product Owner.” At the same time, when I read job ads about the responsibilities of a Product Manager, I recognized myself and got more and more confused because, in different companies, the concept of “Product Manager” or “Product Owner” could slightly differ, but the main idea was the same.
One lucky day, I read a fabulous article by Ant Murph, which finally put everything in its place.
I will give just a few quotes to summarise the result of my researches:
“As a Product Manager your roles and responsibilities will change depending on your context and the stage of your product. Without a Scrum team or with a smaller team, you might be doing more strategy and validation work with problem discovery in a product that has not been defined yet. With a Scrum team, you may be more focused on the execution of solutions. As a manager of Product Managers, you might be leading strategy for a larger part of the product and coaching your teams to discover and execute well.” — Melissa Perri
“Product Owner = Product Manager, they are the same thing but as market perception grows they are in many ways drifting apart. Much like the dictionary definition of words, their meaning and connotation have shifted over time.” – Ant Murphy
